Music Ministry

Picture
Picture
Here at Sierra Vista we view music as an important and valued aspect of our worship ministry. We strive to incorporate a variety of musical styles and genres that will allow our congregation to fully engage in the worship service as a whole, and most importantly, to glorify God.

We are blessed to have many volunteer musicians and sound techs who make this area of ministry possible. If you are interested in becoming involved in music at this church, here are some ways to serve:

Sierra Singers

Sierra Singers is a choir dedicated to glorifying God through all types of worship music and four part choral music. They are passionate about music and its importance in worship through hymns, songs, and spiritual songs. Ages 14 through seniors are invited to sing in the choir. The choir sings for the 9 am worship service every Sunday, from Labor Day to Memorial Day, and occasionally at the 10:45 worship service.

All those who love to sing are welcome! The only requirement is weekly attendance at Wednesday evening choir rehearsals, 6:30-8:00pm. Being able to read music is helpful, but not required. Choir members are expected to arrive by 8:20am on Sundays for a warm-up. Please contact Cathy for more information:

Praise Band

Our praise band consists of a rotation of musicians who help to lead our 10:45 service- vocals, guitar, piano, drums, bass... a little bit of everything, and a somewhat different lineup each week. They lead the congregation in praise songs and hymns throughout the service, and often will share new songs and special music as well.

We welcome new musicians, but because members of the praise band take such a direct role in leading the worship service, we ask that any new members be regular attenders who are interested in taking on a leadership role. If you would like to become involved, please contact our worship coordinator, Mary Posluch:

Sound Team

Our sound techs are an essential part of our ministry that help to ensure that each service runs smoothly. We generally have two people in the soundbooth at each service to run our soundboard and powerpoint slides. We have regular sound training sessions throughout the year, so no experience is necessary (although an ear for music is helpful for mixing sound levels!). If you have experience in this area, or are interested in learning, please contact Mary Posluch for more information:

Sierra Ringers

Sierra Ringers is a handbell choir, dedicated to contributing to worship through beautiful music written for handbells. The ringers are good musicians who wish to contribute to the musical worship of Sierra Vista. They work hard to learn the techniques of ringing bells and play for worship as the occasion arises, and sometimes in the community at Christmas time. New members are always welcome to join the bell choir. Those who read music and know rhythms can easily join, but those who need to learn how may need to start in a beginner's group. They hope to have some beginner's workshops to introduce propective ringers to handbell playing. Current members of the Sierra Ringers practice every Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm.
