The Tabitha Project - A Sewing Ministry
"There was a believer in Joppa named Tabitha (which in Greek is Dorcas). She was always doing kind things for others and helping the poor...She made coats and other garments for widows." Acts 9:36-42
The Tabitha Project is a sewing ministry that was started in 2014 by Sara Robison and Teri Lucas. They have a vision to make items for our own church body, for our community (Helping Hands Pregnancy Center, MOPS) and for global missions using patterns from Dress A Girl Around the World, Sole Hope, and Days for Girls. To date, they have an average of twelve participants (most who sew from home) and they have made over 450 items that have been donated in the name of Christ in our community and around the world. The items they currently make are shoe patterns, baby booties, bibs, nursing cover-ups, burp cloths, pillowcase dresses, boy’s shorts and hygiene kits. They feel that God has called them to use their gifts of sewing to show the love of Christ to others in this small way.
If you would like to get involved with the Tabitha Project, there are several ways you can help. They always need people to sew, but if you can't sew, you can also be involved by donating fabric, jean material, other sewing supplies; putting snaps on bibs and hygiene kits and cutting out shoe pattern pieces; and preparing items for shipping. If you are able to be involved with sewing, the Tabitha Project meets every first and third Wednesday of the month from 12:00-3:00pm in the church mobile. If you have additional questions, contact Sara Robison 683-7363 or Teri Lucas 760-4495.
