Music Ministry

Music Ministry

Here at Sierra Vista we view music as an important and valued aspect of our worship ministry. We strive to incorporate a variety of musical styles and genres that will allow our congregation to fully engage in the worship service as a whole, and most importantly, to glorify God.
"... be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
-Ephesians 5:18-20

We are blessed to have many volunteer musicians and sound techs who make this area of ministry possible! If you are interested in becoming involved in music at this church, here are some ways to serve:

Sierra Singers

In an age where choirs seem to be disappearing, we are so pleased to be able to keep that tradition strong and vibrant! Our singers are dedicated to glorifying God and leading our congregation with all types of worship music and four part choral music. Anyone from the ages of 14-104 is invited to sing with us! The choir sings for the 9 am worship service every Sunday, from Labor Day to Memorial Day, and occasionally at the 10:45 worship service.

All those who love to sing are welcome! The only requirement is weekly attendance at Wednesday evening choir rehearsals, 6:30-8:00pm. Being able to read music is helpful, but not required. Choir members are expected to arrive by 8:20am on Sundays for a warm-up. (Our choir is currently taking a break through this season). Please contact Mary for more information.

Praise Band

Our praise band consists of a rotation of musicians who help to lead our 10:45 service- vocals, guitar, piano, drums, bass... a little bit of everything, and a somewhat different lineup each week. They lead the congregation in praise songs and hymns throughout the service, and often will share new songs and special music as well. If you would like to become involved, please contact Mary.

Sound Team

Our sound techs are an essential part of our ministry that help to ensure that each service runs smoothly. We generally have several people involved at each service to run our sound mixing, livestream, and slides. We have regular sound training sessions throughout the year, so no prior experience is necessary (although an ear for music is helpful for mixing sound levels!). During our summer season, they also assist in moving our sound system in and out each week. If you have experience in this area, or are interested in learning, please contact Mary for more information.

Choir Recordings and Resources

Sierra Ringers

The Sierra Ringers is a handbell choir, dedicated to contributing to worship through beautiful music written for handbells. The ringers are good musicians who wish to contribute to the musical worship of Sierra Vista. They work hard to learn the techniques of ringing bells and play for worship as the occasion arises, and sometimes in the community at Christmas time. New members are always welcome to join the bell choir. Reading music is particularly helpful, but our director Leah is willing to work with anyone who is willing to learn!
Please contact Leah for more information. The Sierra Ringers practice every Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm. (Rehearsals currently postponed)
